P.S. - also check if there are any firmware upgrades for the drive...
[ 173.004000] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] Asking for cache data failed
[ 181.328000] sd 1:0:0:0: [sda] READ CAPACITY failed
these bits are worrying... either there's a bug in the kernel storage or
usb drivers.. or the drive firmware itself has issues.
