#22217: Pivot-overlay to a miniSDHC in an USB-modem slot fails

CC 15.05.1 (on Asus WL-330N3G with Huawei E3131 USB-modem and 8GB
miniSDHC)
The regular pivot-overlay (to a plain USB-flash) works as per
https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/extroot
The very same steps performed with a storage in a slot of an USB-modem
fail. A router locks-up after reboot, no SSH or Telnet access possible
until ExtRoot is disabled (by either removing the card or by editing
/etc/config/fstab before rebooting).
