having plugged my newly-acquired "atheros" mini-PCI card into my WL500-GP, and rebuilt a firmware image, i flashed it, rebooted, the router came up, the wired interfaces all worked, dmesg showed me:
... ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel. ath_hal: 0.10.5.6 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, AR5416, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413, RF2133, RF2425, RF2417, REGOPS_FUNC) ath_rate_minstrel: Minstrel automatic rate control algorithm 1.2 (trunk) ath_rate_minstrel: look around rate set to 10% ath_rate_minstrel: EWMA rolloff level set to 75% ath_rate_minstrel: max segment size in the mrr set to 6000 us ... but, as opposed to what i read on this wiki page: http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/docs/openwrt.html the file /etc/config/wireless was empty -- no generic atheros configuration had been written into it. confusion. what had i done wrong? pop open the router to make sure everything was connected properly, only to look closely at the card and note that it said "ASUS", not "atheros". specifically, an ASUS WL-120G. *sigh*. i will be having words with my buddy who handed it to me, assuring me it was an atheros. of course, i probably should have looked at it more carefully at the time. once again, the search is on for a supported wireless card. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P.
