I'm thinking more along the lines of buying or building a minimal x86 system and using full-blown Gentoo. There's less to learn, more consistency with my other systems, and it will be more feature-full. On the downside, the hardware will be more expensive, I think more prone to failure, more power-hungry, and potentially noisier although not necessarily. Administration will be more involved, but at least there won't be any new administrative stuff to learn.
