Try to search the internet for "networked media tank".
As Luca mentioned, there are several much cheaper and lower-powered
boxes that can do the trick (I guess the boxee box is half-way since it's
also x86 but I don't know that it can boot a normal x86 kernel).
And indeed the problem is that all the boxes I find seem to depend on
some proprietary driver and/or libraries that causes problem.
