What do you mean by "my laptop are recognizing it as EXT3"? Which program?

fdisk prints only what the partition table says. Other software,
including parted and mount, can detect the actual contents' format.
Perhaps this is your problem - you have an ext3 filesystem on a FAT32
partition.
