What about using a USB device? I can find boxes with four serial ports
without much effort, there might even be ones with more ports. OpenWRT
compatible boxes with USB are quite cheap. A colleague of mine favours
TP-Link TL-WR703N, but seemingly he imports them from China. The
installed firmware is also in Chinese.

Disclaimer: I have not researched if these devices work with Linux, let
alone OpenWRT.
