Hi,

Nightly snapshots are now accompanied by corresponding FreeBSD ports.

http://www.openxpki.org/lastmidnight/index.html

N.B. FreeBSD port does not contain distribution itself. It only
references corresponding tarball with a certain checksum. (So we
obligatory need a pair: tarball + port.) It seems to be the main
distinction from a Linux package, which contains initial distribution
tarball inside.

At the moment it is done as follows. 8 tarballs and 8 freebsd ports are
generated elsewhere and then with "rsync over ssh" are placed to
http://openxpki.sf.net/lasmidnight/ web server, from where all www
mirrors happily take them with wget.

If somebody wants to add nightly generation of linux packages, I suggest
to make it fully independently from the above procedure. The background
of this independence is in the mention distinction between freebsd and
linux: linux packages does not need separate distribution tarballs.

Nightly linux packages could be generated at your location and placed to
the same web server at sf, but to the different directory, say
/lastmidnight-debian/. Even if a debian package happens to be built with
a different svn revision than the nightly tarball from the /lasmidnight/
directory, it would be ok, as debian package contains appropriate
openxpki distribution inside it.

The drawback of this approach is that we will need to augment scripts at
all www mirrors (so that wget fetches /lastmidnight-debian/ _and_
/lastmidnight/) when/if automatic linux package generation is added.

Please let me know if this violates somebody's plans.

All the best, Sergei
