and CGI on Mac OS X here ...

Hmmm, I've added saving the certificate with the (escaped) CN before -
maybe that's not really desirable for russian certificates. Any ideas
how we can cope with that?

:-( Have you tried talking to the mod_perl people about it?
Luckily, we can still use Apache1 around here, so the issue is not
that import for us ...
