Hi Stefano,

great news - thank you very much for the efforts. I must admit that we did not care much about grammar, plurals and such things and you might find situations where we use the same token for different forms of an adverb. If you have suggestions for improving these, I am happy to discuss this.

Your plan to move on is correct, there shouldnt be much new strings in the current release so this should be a quick win. After the "make scan" you will end up with empty string patterns and not the english originals. If you want to have english for all missing items, you should use "msgmerge" to merge new items from the english file to the italien one (you dont need make scan in this case)

Hi Oliver,
I've just completed the first step and I have translated the openxpki.po
file (I followed your hint, used Poedit which made it indeed easier!).

After uploading the .mo file I can now see the Openxpki webite in
italian, at least the most part of it. Next step will be to go thru the
various menus and tune the translation, by checking the single strings
in their context (already found some inconsistencies, specifically with
plurals, which are typical of italian lang).

Please check the next steps and tell me if I'm doing it the right way:

Phase 1
1 - Sync my local Github with Master branch, in order to get the last
updates from Github
2 - "make scan" to update the .po files (this will update the new
italian .po file, right? Or do I need to change some configuration?)
3 - Check translations for the new strings and update them. Reload the
.mo file and make a final tune again.

After these steps, I should be ready to send a pull request to upload
the italian .po and .mo files to the master branch.

Phase 2:
- Check the untranslated strings and substitute with "I18N_OPENXPKI_UI_"
prefix, then repeat steps 2 and 3 above.

Is the above a correct way of proceeding? Do you have any suggestion?

Just let me know, I'll follow them!

Best regards,
Stefano

    Hi Stefano,

    I really appreciate your help!

Have a look at the files in core/server/OpenXPKI/Client/UI/.
Especially the Certificate.pm has a lot of untranslated labels and
those should be easy to spot. Translatable items *must* start with
the string I18N_OPENXPKI_UI_, they must be all uppercase with only
letters and numbers - just check the other labels and you should get
    an idea of it.

After changing the files, go into core/i18n and run "make scan",
this will add new labels to the po source files. Please be so kind
and add the english translations, too - otherwise we obviously cant
    use it.

Hi Oliver, thanks for the quick answer!

I will follow your instructions and prepare the translated .po file.
Once completed, I'll send a pull request to put it into the
        master branch.

I don't know if I'm brave enough (lol!) but if I can be of any help,
it'll be a pleasure to give something back to the team, so send
        me the
hints, I'll try to do my best.

        Best regards,
        Stefano.

             Hi Stefano,

glad to hear that it works for you and thank you very much
        for the
             offer.

There are still some artefacts that are hardcoded but if you
translate the items in the gettext files, you should be able to
             cover 90+%.

             What to do:
             * grab the english language file from

https://github.com/openxpki/openxpki/blob/master/core/i18n/en_GB/openxpki.po
             * translate all items you find, it would be easiest to use
        some tool
             like https://poedit.net/
             * compile the file (poedit does this for you) and load the
        resulting
             file "openxpki.mo" to /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES
             * set the default language in etc/openxpki/webui/default.conf
             to it_IT and restart Apache

If you are brave enough and want to help us with the
        untranslatable
stuff, I can give you some more hints on that if required.

             Oliver

                 Hiya,

I've just installed OpenXPKI on Debian 8 jessie,
        everything went
                 smooth
and I do have a fully functional "ca-one" CA, I thought
        I had to say
thanks for your efforts on this great project.

Is there a localization package for the WebUI? If
        needed, I'd be
                 happy
                 to contribute the italian translation.

                 All the best.

                 Stefano
