Dear OpenXPKI Fellows,

as there are several requests and comments on the mailing list and the
bug tracker about the age of debian jessie used as our base system, I
want to give a short perspective on where we plan to move.

We are working on getting "things done" to update to Debian Buster which
will be continued as community release and be available free of charge
via the package mirrors. This should be done within the next six months,
so there is plenty of time to upgrade before the end of support for
Jessie in June 2020.

For those who don't like debian on their servers we are working on
providing a docker container so you can use OpenXPKI easily on any other
distro.

We are NOT working on packages for Ubuntu as a community edition - the
packaging for Ubuntu has been shown to be a real PITA sometimes and we
simply do not have the resources to invest and support this. OpenXPKI is
a real open source project and we appreciate any contribution - so if
you feel you need support for Ubuntu just "make it happen" and
contribute to the project.

best regards

Oliver
