Dear OpenXPKI Fellows,

just as a clarification to my last mail as some people already started
asking:

OpenXPKI is and will always remain Open Source -- there is no intent to
make the community edition a "crippleware" to force paying for a useful
product. And since the FOSS model of Debian best fits this philosophy,
we as community members, make a "best effort" to make packages available
for the stable Debian distribution.
As you may know, the OpenXPKI core team has founded their own company,
White Rabbit Security GmbH. Together we are providing professional
services for our customers who are as enthusiastic about OpenXPKI as we
are: We provide consulting surrounding cryptographic key management
solutions (such as PKI systems) and most of our work flows back into the
OSS. Some of our customers have specific requirements for the software
packages (e. g. simplified packages for Perl and CPAN dependencies for
offline/segregated data center installation), so we invest some effort
in tailoring the installation to other distributions such as Ubuntu,
SLES and RHEL. Reserving these packages for our paying customers allows
us to provide added value that helps fund our Open Source efforts.

Just as the BSD distribution has been supported by members of our
community over the years, we welcome input and contributions for
adapting the Debian installation to other distributions for community
release. As a company, our team will focus on just Debian as we move
forward with each release.

The bottom line:

OpenXPKI "Community Edition" as published on Github is only distributed
as source code and Debian packages and, thanks to Sergei, FreeBSD packages.

If you require packaging for other operating systems (as mentioned
above), additional features, professional services such as consulting,
customizing and integration, or if you would like to subscribe to a
support and maintenance plan, the OpenXPKI Enterprise Edition as
provided by White Rabbit Security GmbH might be the right choice for
you.

with best regards

Oliver
