What is the preferred way to override this with custom flags? I tried passing CXXFLAGS=-O3 to configure, but that has no effect: CXXFLAGS="-g -O0 -DDEBUG" still holds internally. Digging through configure I found the --disable-debug flag that results in CXXFLAGS="-O3 -DNDEBUG". Unfortunately, I get linker errors with boost when using it.
