All,

Moments ago, we made some structural changes to the restart file writing code
of the OPM Flow simulator. These changes mean that, going forward, the
simulator will write restart files that cannot be loaded in earlier versions of
the simulator, e.g., earlier releases up to and including the 2025.04 release.
We maintain the ability to load restart files created in earlier versions of
the simulator, but the simulator output will use the new format exclusively.
Furthermore, the simulator's result files continue to be compatible with
post-processing tools like ResInsight.

If you run binary packages of the simulator, e.g., installed with a package
manager such as Ubuntu's/Debian's "apt", then you will not be affected by this
change until the next public release—tentatively scheduled for late
October/early November 2025. If, on the other hand, you build the simulator
from source code on your own system, then you will be affected by this change
the next time you update your source code.
