Hi all,

To help us move forward on Dovetail I've suggested that we first take a step
back and consider/agree upon some basics that will I think help us focus the
Dovetail effort more effectively.
https://techdiscuss.opnfv.org/t/organizing-dovetail/82 was started for that
overall goal. Because it's unclear to me exactly what tool the team prefers to
use (and what may be the most effective tool) for such
input/discussion/consensus, I've suggested that we use a variety of tools as
need be, for the various aspects of this discussion. Here's a summary and links:

For example, I submitted https://jira.opnfv.org/browse/DOVETAIL-345 to help us
"drive consensus on the high-level test areas for the program to address, first
release and as a roadmap". But whether JIRA is a useful enough tool to develop
that consensus in detail is TBD. So when Lincoln asked the question " how to
drive this collaboration / input" in that JIRA issue, I responded with the
below:

I don't think that
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/dovetail/Dovetail+Test+Areas+and+Test+Cases
covers the priorities at the right level. I would rather have a fresh look at
this, using a collaborative-editing tool ala Etherpad or a threaded
conversation tool ala https://techdiscuss.opnfv.org/. I have for example
created a couple of sub-pads of https://etherpad.opnfv.org/p/dovetail to start
the discussion:
*         https://etherpad.opnfv.org/p/dovetail-principles
*         https://etherpad.opnfv.org/p/dovetail-priorities

Discussing such a set of views in a threaded conversation can get very
difficult to follow. But any aspects of this that are controversial should be
discussed in https://techdiscuss.opnfv.org/ as discrete topics first, and we
can agree on the etherpad to take the discussion there as needed.

I'd like to get your opinions on this as a more useful way to organize the
discussion (and of course, your active participation in the discussion!), i.e.:

* We use JIRA to manage the things we need to agree upon

* Collaboratively edit an etherpad page related to the subject

* If aspects of what the etherpad covers need a deeper/threaded
discussion, we can note that on the etherpad and move the discussion to
https://techdiscuss.opnfv.org/ until we have consensus, which we can then
document on the etherpad

* Once we have reached an adequate set of consensus points, we document
this in the JIRA issue and close it.

Thanks,
Bryan Sullivan | AT&T
