Well, I might be biased, but having a company behind a software which can help you fix problems, giving you commercial support or even code some piece of missing software is very important. If it can be done based on a contract, it gets right for corporations.
It is the power of free, open source software that powers Opsview, but when if you want to do commercial things with it, it is just so good to know that you have someone available who can help you in case of problems. I've been with Nagios already for some time now - actually started to use it when it was still called Netsaint. I really do like the software, but I also know of some of it's weaker points. I've tried a lot of add-ons and alternatives, but I always came back to good ol' Nagios. With Opsview, this has changed. I have confidence in the product and the team behind it. So, what I'm saying is that I think there will be no need to worry. Nagios is still going strong (look at the awards is is raking in all the time) and Opsview only makes it stronger. With the addition of Tom Voon to the core dev team of Nagios and heaps of experience with the system, I'm confident that Opsview is here to stay. If the fork turns out to be good or have good parts in it, Opsview can probably incorporate that in their system, which gives us the best of both worlds - we can probably just "apt-get upgrade" and have the new features! cheers, arthur On May 21, 2009, at 17:39 PM, Andrew Hall wrote: > On 2009-05-21 09:00, James Peel wrote: > >> What does everyone else think about think about the fork? > > From what I read - and it was a quick review of their website - > they'll be competing not just with Nagios but with you. > > They want a PHP-based web GUI front end through which Nagios can be > configured. > > Personally I think it'll be some time before they reach the > functionality of Opsview, though. > _______________________________________________ > Opsview-users mailing list > [email protected] > http://lists.opsview.org/listinfo/opsview-users _______________________________________________ Opsview-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.opsview.org/listinfo/opsview-users
