Can name the standard primitive data types. Understands the difference between primitive and reference/class types. Understands when to use instance and local variables. Understands the difference between *private* and *public *methods and variables. Understands the meaning of the *static *key word and can apply it appropriately. Can perform basic string manipulation. Can perform basic mathematical functions. Can code branching statements using *if* and *switch *statements. Can code looping statements using *while, for, *and *do*. Can perform simple input/output using the classes in the java.io package. Can store/retrieve objects in simple, one-dimensional arrays. Can create simple swing applications using panels and custom components. Can navigate through Java documentation. *JBuilder IDE * Can compile and build the application.
