I have a question on this topic. How do you know of a paper is copyrighted?
I downloaded the DBA 101 page and printed it so I could usefully benefit
from it. Was that wrong? Am I a lawbreaker now? There was no information
anywhere which said it was copyrighted and could not be re-printed without
permission, ... et.al. So how do we distinguish copyright material and not?
Is every web page copyrighted? Just because Mr. Spence and others have a
web page with tehcnical opinions and information, are those now copyrighted?
I think this is a slippery slope we are walking here. 'Copyrighted' carries
a heavy annotation with it. Careful how you use it. So, what is the rule
on web pages with no (c) or warnings in the paper?

On another topic, I DO believe that you make alot more money writing a
technical book. Even though Rachel, and others on this list, may not
benefit from royalities, they surely will benefit from having that on their
resume. No doubt you can charge a higher rate or salary from having
published material. In all comes from experience. Higher education ->
higher pay. More experience on the job -> higher pay. Book author in your
specific field and job duties -> higher pay. If not, you should
re-negotiate.

FWIW, I own copies of Rachel's book and Velpuri's book and Sarin's book and
Devraj's book and Ault's book and ...

Steve A. , when are you going to write a book and give us all a brain dump
of your texpertise?

paper to your web page with out their prior permission.. Got that.. Wasn't
planning to do it either - yet :)
