Thanks.I am glad that your problem is resolved and you are no more required
to rebounce you db. I have been using this solution to take back space from
temp since ver 7.3.4. At one time,even bouncing of database (7.3.4) was not
releasing temp tablespacespace then I used this option...

Rafiq,
I just tried to take temp tablespace offline as advised by you and it
works. When brought online the segments in temporary tablespace have been
released. Thanks...
Also your suggestion to Rahgu of creating a temp tablespace for a job and
dropping it later on is a good one.

I think you misunderstood my message. This message was for Shailesh.
Regarding your problem, you have to increase your temp tablespace > 6GB
to handle your large index....If you are worried about your existing temp
tablespace and if you have harddisk space create another temp tablespace
naming temp2 size > 6GB and asssign it to that user creating index and after
successful completion assign that user your original temp tablespace drop
that temp2 tablespace without any further complications....
If not clear ,please ask...

Yeah I tried to wake up smon, by giving this statement alter tablespace temp
storage(pctincrease 0);
But no use..Still I getting problem when I rebuilding it.
