Also be sure your ORACLE_SID is set properly in the environment. I believe that will take care of the confusion with the pfile. It's a knee-jerk reaction for me - before signing in to svrmgrl I always check the $ORACLE_SID

I think you must do something like
startup pfile=...
pfile is your parameter file for 2nd db(your init<SID>.ora)
That error message mean that Oracle try to start db1 again...
