The documented mechanisms for upgrading a db is to use the migration tool or run the u0xxxxxx.sql script on your old version data files. All this implies downtime which I cannot afford. How do 24x7 shops upgrade oracle software?
I did the upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 with a standby db process. The standby was running 8.1.7 with primary at 8.1.6.
