<<The 9i New Features book from the Oracle documentation set is pretty
vague>>

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhh you are being kind.... I think that particular document
from
Oracle is terrible... It seems to me to be more of a "here is what you will
learn
about if you take our Oracle9i New Features class" book.... I was really
frustrated
during the writing of the 9i New Features book by the poor
documentation...and a
total lack (at the time) of information on Metalink or technet to support
the deeper
operational type of stuff. It's slowly getting better though.

Thanks again for buying the book!

I found it very helpful indeed.
At least 50% of the text is now highlighted so it's a heck of a mess!
Certainly, in the absence of the Oracle Press New Features Exam Guide it's
just about the only sensible choice for a revision text.
The 9i New Features book from the Oracle documentation set is pretty vague
and it would have taken weeks (maybe months) to compile all of the details.
Mind you, then I could have published it ! =)

I'll send a list of stuff that I find. Mostly really obvious and not
distracting (p.80 "CONFUGRE BACKUP" - twice and "RMAM").

Thanks,

Mike

<<get a spell checker Bob>>

*blush* spelling is not my strong suit.... thats a bad thing
for a writer to admit, but it's true.

Still, I use Microsoft Word, spell checker enabled... the text
went through no less than three different editors, and two proofreaders....

what can I say??? :-)

Each example is tested, and retested... I'm not quite sure how errors
creep up there (like the misspelling of DEFAULT in one place)...

If you will send me a list of corrections I'll be glad to incorporate
them into an errata I'm crafting and into the next printing...!! I know
about a number of them which have been corrected for the next printing
that is ongoing right now.

I hope you found the book helpful, and congratulations on being an
OCP9i!!

Just passed my 9i OCP DBA exam. Now I have the whole set. =)

For anyone who's interested these are thew resources I used :

Oracle 9i New Features - Robert G Freeman ( but GET A SPELLCHECKER Bob! )
Oracle documentation set.
Oracle "9i Daily Features" articles
     (http://technet.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/daily/content.html)
Oracle-Base 9i New Features Articles
     (http://www.oracle-base.com/Articles/9i/Articles9i.asp)
Plenty of time to play with the database.

Sorry this is WAY off topic but anyone who's read this far gets a virtual
pseudo-beer.

Cheers
Mike Hately

Now, who's going to offer me a job?
