Not at all related, but I could not help but think of my favorite
recommendation from Metalink.
As a workaround to a problem:
        Workaround
         ~~~~~~~~~~
         The best workaround is to prevent your database from getting into
this state
         where it cannot be opened.

I believe it's a classic.
