I think that the main reason is response
time.
An NT machine can get only 4 CPUs.
If you have all the CPUs and memory and the NT does
not carry the load
then it is time to consider a change.
A change can be to Unix or to
clustering.
If you are all NT shop then I would consider
clustering.
In a mixed shop the move to Unix is easier,
otherwise you will also
need system administrator and have learning
curve.
