Oracle doesn't place anything. SQL*Plus does.
If you generate scripts from SQL*Plus:
set linesize ...

Guys, 

Building scripts from SQL generating SQL in Oracle on Unix.  I know that
there are set commands so that Oracle does not put CR or LF in the middle of
a long command.  Does anyone know these off the top of their head?
