You can use compress or gzip to compress a
file. compress -v [filename]
should compress the file and tell you the
percentage as well. Gzip is a GNU
utility that may be on your system.
These utilities may not be in your
current
path.

a unix nightly job which will send an email to a user. However, the

size is very large, so we need to zip the file before we send it
out.
Does anyone know the syntax or command of zipping a file from UNIX
?
