I've just been asked if Oracle has an API which allows you to query the progress of a query, say, as a percentage of the whole time taken. I'm guessing that it would be an extremely complex algorithm to implement, if at all possible. Does anyone know if something like this exists? The 9.2 DBA Studio has a nice little progress bar for long-running operations-- presumably based on queries against the tables other folks have mentioned. Go to the list of sessions, open a particular session, and go to the "long operations" tab. Obviously, this is more useful if you want to watch the progress of a query than if you want to do some serious reporting.
