Curiously, the basics are common across styles of cooking. You have to learn to coax the flavors out of the fresh ingredients and transform them into the proper texture and finish. Once you've mastered Italian cooking, you may not be a top notch German cook, but you're probably just a recipe or two away from being able to produce a very nice German meal...
