Yes, you missed out the site ;)
But I guess I don't need it anyway.
I just tried "ipcs -sm" before starting the database ...
Here is what I did:

-->

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/oracle] ipcs -sm

------ Shared Memory Segments --------
key shmid owner perms bytes nattch status

------ Semaphore Arrays --------
key semid owner perms nsems status

#comment: nothing was using the shared memory.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/oracle] sqlplus /nolog

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Tue Mar 18 15:45:12 2003

SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup nomount pfile="[Path]init.ora";
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
SQL> disconnect;
Disconnected
SQL> exit;

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/oracle] ipcs -sm

------ Shared Memory Segments --------
key shmid owner perms bytes nattch status

<--

It doesn't matter how often I redo the procedure, the outcoming is the
same.
Is there a bug in Oracle 9.2.0.1.0?
I'm now downloading 9.0.1, hoping that will work ...

Btw.: I reinstalled Oracle 9i (without applying the glibc-patch for 8i).

Installed libc versions (if that matters):
libc5                   5.4.46-12
libc5-altdev            5.4.46-12
libc6                   2.3.1-14
libc6-dev               2.3.1-14
libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1   2.91.66-4
libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2  2.95.4-16
