I doubt it.  I once tried recoverying a hot backup from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 and recovery kept asking for logs.  Oracle stated can only recover to the same base version.

With all the new stuff related to redo logs (logical standby, etc.)
brought by 9.x, I wouldn't try it.
