Anna, Who said we should not create unique indexes on tables? I do it all the time when I need uniqueness on a column other than the primary key. It happens very rarely, but it does happen.
I wish I were in the room when somebody makes a statement like this. It just shows their lack of experience in database design versus the real world. There is a column called date_created in the table that records what time the record was created. The value of date_created for the record that caused error message is the same as reported from application. That's why I said that the record was inserted into the table successfully. I know Oracle recommends that we do not explicitly define unique indexes on tables. Why?
