Jay, You are new to Oracle I guess? Don't mistake ANNOUNCEMENT with RELEASE or AVAILABILITY. The announcement is just to keep the press busy, the competition anxious and help me convince customers that perhaps it is time they think about migrating their remaining 7.3.4 databases. Big marketing event, Larry prophecizes about the future of IT and sometimes mentions the new Oracle release en passant (some may remember that Oracle8 was totally eclipsed by the then big idea, the network computer). In the trenches, business as usual. In about 6 months or so some versions, usually on the wrong platforms, will become available. But I am ready to bet that in 12 months there will still be a large number of databases running 8.1.7, a small majority will be running 9.2 and very few 10g will be in production (mainly because 10.1.0.3, the first really usable for production, will have been out for a couple of months only). -- Regards, Stephane Faroult Oriole Software -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net -- Author: Stephane Faroult INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services -- 858-538-5051 http://www.fatcity.com San Diego, California -- Mailing list and web hosting services --------------------------------------------------------------------- To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from).
