That really isn't 'grid', but I think you know that.

GC essentially makes a network look like one great big
box, with the cross platform functionality included.

In the immortal words of Scott McNeally:
"The network is the computer".  :)

Don't know if he said if first.  John Brunner was likely
the first to get the concept in print.
