You may want to experiment to disable the self-detection of some devices, if they are
not required.
The "no" something cheatcodes can skip parts of the auto detection.
So for example:
knoppix alsa noapic noagp noapm noscsi
The current list of the "no" cheatcodes is:
no{apic,agp,apm,audio,ddc,firewire,isapnpbios,pcmcia,scsi,swap,usb}
