Yes. In general, that's what you will tend to do though: define in advance the outputs supported by a given processor.
(BTW: Do I get all defined outputs, or only those that are connected to another input?)
I realize the semantics of createOutput() is not 100% well defined here, but you shouldn't suppose that createOutput() will be called just because a p:output is present, if it is not connected.
