Well, yes, id="abc-output" appears in every branch, but the problem
is that "abc-output" is *also* used in the branches themselves using
href="abc-output" and because of this, "abc-output" is not "exported",
but considered to be an internal id of each branch.  (At least that's
my understanding and I think also read this in your white paper.)

Yes that appears to be the current behavior. So your workaround is to use an identity processor to export another id, which is not used in the branch. That works, but that is not very elegant. Maybe this behavior should be changed.
