Hi all -
I wanted to add some context about the new gallery<http://orchardproject.net/gallery09/>. We've recently switched to using an OData feed, so the gallery infrastructure is all-new for this release, and built as an Orchard site too! The gallery includes a self-registration account system that you can use to submit packages. The package format for Orchard extensions is now NuGet<http://nuget.codeplex.com/>, but you can still create packages easily using the orchard command-line: package create <packageName> <outputPath>. After creating your package, you can upload to the gallery using the submission system - see http://www.orchardproject.net/gallery09/Contribute/Index for details. We'd really like you all to try out this system and let us know what you think. We're working on additional features (like ratings/reviews, multiple ownership management, category and tag browsing, etc) for the final V1 release. The modules you built for 0.8 should require minimal or no changes to run under 0.9, but we recommend testing thoroughly with 0.9 before submitting to the gallery. We are working hard to produce some additional themes too, which we will post to the new gallery as they complete. Contoso is almost back! ;-) I hope you all enjoy 0.9 and notice some of the dramatic stability and performance improvements we've made. Do let us know how it goes and it you run into any snags making the transition up from 0.8. Our primary focus between now and 1.0 is on addressing the top stability and performance issues reported from your use of 0.9. On to V1! We have a couple of holiday treats for you today! First, last night we rele= ased Orchard 0.9<http://orchard.codeplex.com/releases/view/50196>. This release has one new feature: content lists<http://orchardproject.net/d= ocs/Creating-lists.ashx>, and lots and lots of bugs fixes and performance i= mprovements. Oh, and one little detail: it works in medium trust... This ve= rsion should be rather close to what we'll ship mid-January as Orchard 1.0.= Differences you can expect in v1.0 are pretty much only bug fixes. And new= themes :) (Jon and Michael are working on a few right now). Get the Orchard 0.9 Release: http://orchard.codeplex.com/releases/view/50196 One thing to know about 0.9 is that we decided to make the default installa= tion leaner on modules. In consequence, we moved lots of modules that used = to be built-in to optional downloads from the Orchard Gallery. Which makes = for a nice transition... Our second treat is the launch of the Orchard Gallery. Previously, we only = had a somewhat naked XML feed for modules and themes. That feed is still th= ere, but it's now exposed from a complete gallery web site: http://orchardp= roject.net/gallery09 Now do you want to hear something really cool? The gallery site is an Orcha= rd application. And it's open-source: http://orchardgallery.codeplex.com/ http://galleryserver.codeplex.com/ Well, that's it for today, but hopefully it will keep you busy throughout t= he long winter nights of those holydays. And by the way, now that we've dro= pped this on you, it's worth mentioning that most of the core Orchard team = is now going on vacation so don't be surprised if you don't hear from us fo= r a couple of weeks. But you know what? That's the perfect opportunity to s= tart answering questions on the forums, which is a great way to help others= , to build the community and to learn something new. Cheers, merry Christmas and a happy new year!
