Dear Peter;
I was sorry to hear about your daughter getting all the fingerprint stuff
even though she just had to move to a lounge across the way. I thought about
it, and I think that the reason things are so tight are: 1) Detroit had some
terrorists they arrested and 2) Singapore is next door to the Southeast Asian
hot spot for terrorists- i.e. Indonesia. Everyone gets their luggage searched
now; since I have access to chemicals at UCF, my suitcase gets swabbed for
residue, even in a domestic airport. My friends who flew to Israel used to
wonder why it always took so long to board an Air-Al flight because of the
security, but now everyone has to endure it for our safety. Beats a broken neck
from a bomb blast, lol.
US colleges are $$$$ - Canadian colleges are $$ and give you the same
education, but you have to go to "13th grade", as the US. students at McGill
call it and not straight to your major.

Peter, I know, I have been in the US many times. The US people should
be better informed about the politics of their administration. If they
were, they would be surprised that 9_11 (which was a very serious and
despicable crime) did not happen earlier. And when the politic don't
change, it will happen again.

Surely this is very upsetting to both yourself and you daughter-- I empathize
with your situation as I had similar problems with my boyfriend (who is not a
US citizen)
Is there not a direct flight to Canada from Tokyo? I've flown several times
on QANTAS straight into Canada from the Pacific and I know JAL must have
flights---I believe they have one from Tokyo to Toronto.
Wishing for a better alternative for you and yours,
(And better times ahead for all of us)
Terri Lewin
