I second that. I am a Canadian in Munich, and I am sorry to say that I was influenced by the old stereotypes before I arrived here. No longer. I am profoundly impressed by the German people, by their soul-searching and deeply thoughtful efforts to understand what happened and why. I spent one day visiting Dachau -- German children spend an entire year studying the Holocaust, two generations later.
I feel quite certain that because they have learned and grown from bitter experience, Germany is the last place that something like this would ever happen again. The rest of the world could learn a lot from Germany in that department...
