Can any one tell me what is happening with my Pholidota chinensis?. I have three plants -- one in a basket in moss, one on a mount and one growing in my standard coconut chip mix. All three appear to be healthy, and all three put on new growth early this spring but did not bloom. Now, some of the older foliage, on all three plants, has developed bright orange blotches. Initially I anticipated that the foliage would yellow and simply fall off, as I was assuming that the plants could be partially decidious. This has not been the case however. The orange blotches remain, they have not grown, nor have they spread to other leaves on the plants. The afflicted foliage shows no other signs of aging, or any other symptoms of disease. Can anyone offer an explenation??
The only cultural information I have been able to find has been in Rebecca Northern's book where she advises to grow Pholidota like Catts. I have moved the plants to a slightly more shaded location in the greenhouse but otherwise am treating them as I do my Catts. My greenhouse does tend to run on the cool side as I have a swamp cooler that maintains the the high temps at 85 degrees. Night time temps currently remain in the mid 50s. My humidity runs at 65 - 70 %. I fertilize with each watering, using a standard 20-20-20 and a simple injection system. Could it be that the injection system is not metering fertilizer evenly and I'm getting hotspots?? Please help! Thankyou in advance. Joy Lemieux
