I am not familiar with the fundraising and finances of the AOS. However, it would be
incorrect to lay blame - (if blame must be laid) - on the present state of giving and
the economy.

Pursuant to the Centre on Philanthropy at Indiana University, Americans gave, in
CONSTANT dollars the following amounts to charity:

1975: Approximately $100 billion
1985: Approximately $120 billion
1995: Approximately $150 billion
2003: Approximately $240 billion

These figures are available in the July 29, 2004 article "Doing well and doing good:
Why a new golden age of philanthropy may be dawning." in The Economist.

Please note the very limited nature of my point: I am NOT commenting on the general
state of AOS fundraising or its fundraisers. I am only pointing out that charitable
giving - in its broadest terms- surged in the late 90's and has remained strong
throughout the recession.
