O'Byrne is pretty thick, many of us know this already. A CBR is what it says it is, a Certificate of Botanical Merit and is NOT a quality award. Even student AOS judges understand this, he seems unable or unwilling to. I am sure Acriopsis is a weed somewhere, all orchids are. That's why it got its particular award and not a Certificate of Horticultural Merit. What we call a "mow over" rather than "mow around" orchid!
Why should I be concerned with Singapore judging? I have read many of the OSSEA newsletters and judging by the plants reported to be on display like Bc Languedoc 'Singapore Welcome', I doubt I've missed much. When did the last orchid from Singapore get an overseas award??
Why would O'Byrne feel it is my responsibility to ensure consistency in judging at the 18th WOC? I'm not known for tilting at windmills. However I will be part of a committee whose task is to ensure that only credentialed judges, in good standing in their home countries, get a judging opportunity in Miami. That way, exhibitors can be confident that their prize plants get every opportunity to shine rather than be judged by a bunch of untrained wannabes.
