The secret is high humidity and moisture around the roots. These grow about
head high on pond apples and other hosts that are standing in water. The
capillary action keeps the trunks of the trees, and the moss that grows on
them, moist. Caution; I said moist not soaking wet.
You can put it out but make sure it is not in any direct sun. I would water
it twice a day, once in the early morning, then again about noon . Just make
sure it has a chance to dry some before you water again.
Yes I grew and flowered this plant some 50 years ago. I cut the pond apple
down and brought the tree limb with the plant home, plunged the end of the
limb into a deep pan full of peat and kept the peat wet at all times. The
plant grew and flowered for years under the bench in the greenhouse.

HI FOLKS
I finally have my ghost orchid from Mr. Pigors. It is a small clump of
lovely grey-green roots, mounted on sphagnum on a small stick.
I have several questions: I am now in Florida planning on returning to
Venezuela in a week. Should I put the plant outdoors here? As usual it is
hot and muggy here in Weston.
How often should I water it?
Has anyone on the OGD grown and flowered this orchid outdoors in the
Tropics?
