"The Palm Beach County Cultural Council recently gave grants...

the American Orchid Society Visitors Center and Botanical Garden must use
the money for projects within the grant period - from October 2006 to
September 2007.

The American Orchid Society's $75,000 grant under the "Major Institutions"
category... will be used for marketing and advertising. This is the first
year that the American Orchid Society has been eligible for a grant from
the Cultural Council, and Executive Director Lee Cook explains that for the
first time there will be a strong effort to get the word out about the
organization.

"It's a challenge to carve a niche in the cultural landscape because
there's so much to do here in South Florida," said Cook. "This is a unique
public attraction and we need some help from the marketing standpoint."

The American Orchid Society in Delray Beach, which houses the headquarters
of the international organization, opened in 2001. The group will use the
money for a direct mail campaign, collaborative advertisements with other
cultural groups, and outreach programs for seniors, children and minorities.

"We want to take full advantage of pulling people in here," said Cook.
"We're going to be very careful but aggressive. We want to get on the map." "
