I know powdered iron sulfate works. It stops the feeding immediately and kills within 3-6 days. Copper sulfate works too but is much more deadly to plants and animals. In that case you might as well use metaldehyde.

Now I may get pummeled from all directions on this but here it is anyway. I noticed that there were no slugs or snails around and in the pools I’ve been in or near. Chlorine treatment is a possibility using a 1:20 dilution of bleach. I figured for pools that used quaternary ammonium compounds, Physan might be a good trial. I got a plant with some of those tiny little snails (bush snails?) from someone and after 3 treatments of dowsing with Physan at recommended strength, there were no more snails. I can find no research to back this up other than my own observations. It’s possible my initial hypothesis was flawed but the results were what I wanted. You might try it.
