Cynthia, thanks for your reposonse re my collapsing oncidium spikes. Regarding the possibility of low minerals, I use the city water which has some of the necessaries, not RO, and do use MSU fertilizer alternating with Peter's Excel and Dynagro. Occasional epsom salts, (which may not be necessary since the MSU came out). I also add a small amount of Dolomite on the media surface when repotting.
do you have enough minerals in your water? I had many weak flower spikes and drooping flowers when on RO water and fertilizer that did not contain Calcium and the other macro minerals. I use the MSU fertilizer with the maro minerals now and no longer have a problem.
