I hope lots of people get lots of orchids from all over and into the US as quickly as possible. At the recent ASHS Summer meetings all the talk was about that the US is looking to follow the lead of two stupid countries, Australia and New Zealand, who currently operate a most restrictive control system for the importation of non-indigenous species. All the usual garbage is spouted about making sure they don't become invasive (most of us would love orchids to become invasive) and is really just some disguised revenue gathering exercise. If Government decides the orchid you wish, is not here, then they will charge you for an environmental risk management review before they decide whether it can come in. Be ready for some dodgy paperwork if this damn fool idea gets any legs.

Oh well, I'm off to the wilds of Colombia for a six day collecting trip and the chance to visit their national show in Pereira, But you have been warned. Our orchid world, indeed the plant world, is facing another assault from the mindless bureaucracy.
