Dear Danna: progeny = the descendants of a person, animal, or plant form offspring = a child or children from particular parents (fide Longman, Dictionary of English Language and Culture) Apparently the editor of the slipper orchid alliance restricts the term "offspring" to the F1 generation ... and of course, the number of progeny would be at least equal to the number of offspring because offspring = progeny at the f1 level.
