I have had a good look at the pictures that have been sent me by Dorothy and Le
Roy Barnett and by Martin Epstein and I have surfed a bit on the web and looked
at some other photographs of P. Franz Glanz.

It is evident, that the cross was made between "P. Richteri" (whatever it may
be) and P. besseae. And from looking at the hybrid there is no reason to doubt
that (although I did find one German website where it is listed as a cross of
P. besseae x P. besseae). It is very clear that there is very, very big
variation between the plants flowers I have seen. I also note that there is no
dominance of the besseae except for the colour. Nothing more can be said until
we know what "P. Richteri" really is. Looking at the pictures, I am not quite
sure whether the parent designated as "P. Richteri" has really always been the
same taxon for the plants I have seen.

As I have said once in an Banquet lecture in Miswaukee (for which I was
severely scolded), most of the hybrids are not necessarily what the tag says,
and in the case of P. Franz Glanz, this may well be very true as well. One
would have to be certain about what Franz Glanz used to produce his hybrid, not
only in respect to his "P. Richteri" but also in respect to the "type" of
besseae that was used. Olaf (who is a good friend of Franz) is on this list,
maybe he cares to comment further. As for me, I will put P. Franz Glanz (and
all its progeny and descendant crosses) in the list "Dubious".

regards
Guido
