In 2004 I bought some Cattleya flasks from a local supplier,
and was given in addition, a flask marked “Den. harpophyllum” . I
was told that it was a species. At the time I did not pay much attention and
species was welcome, but just another species, as my interest was elsewhere at
the time. The flask has matured nicely and the time has come to
de-flask it, so I brought it forward and started to look for further
information on this Dendrobium, but I can not find anything written or recorded
any where. Perhaps in is a synonymous name to a other Dendrobium , but I
can not trace anything. The only name I can find is a Laelia species with a similar name,
but this is definitely not in that family. The supplier can not be contacted any more but as far as my
knowledge goes, he is reliable and last I spoke to him he told me that he received
the seedpod from an old grower who is not living any more. He does not know much
more than I do about this Dendrobium. ( The spelling is as it was labeled on
the flask on 15 Sept. 2003.) Can any body help with more info please? Martin Rautenbach |
